Take useful accident photos only when it is safe

Photographs can add context to a report. Do not stand in live traffic or create a new risk to capture them.

Capture context and detail

A useful set usually combines wider views with close-ups.

  • The road layout, signs, lanes and traffic controls
  • Vehicle positions and direction of travel
  • All sides of the involved vehicles
  • Close-ups of visible damage and relevant marks
  • Weather, lighting or road surface when relevant

Respect other people

Avoid unnecessary images of bystanders, medical treatment or unrelated personal information. Use photographs only for the accident record and legitimate follow-up.
